Torch the Charmander

Move Details

Torch's moves aren't really known... it's another detail that has been lost in time.  As such, in stories and artwork, he is seen using a wide variety of the moves that Charmander is capable of learning.

Family & Traits

Unfortunately, nothing is known about Torch's family or origins, but he died too long ago for it to really matter.


Forehead Markings.


Torch was a normal Charmander, aside from the marks on his forehead.  He has a cape, but it is usually depicted in art as being longer and more elegant than it really was.  He couldn't let it burn, after all.

History

Very little is known about Torch.  When word spread about the Torch Alliance, fire types came from all over the land to join them.  Being very conservative, they were all refused, despite their culture dying and their numbers dwindling.  It's most likely that Torch was one of these Pokemon, and was perhaps on his way out of the valley when he came across the Pokemon who was, at that time, the Inferno.

The Inferno was naturally an older Arcanine, and for one reason or another, he ended up outside of camp, alone.  Perhaps he had gone hunting or on a patrol with a couple other tribe members, and was separated.  Or perhaps he just needed to be by himself for a while.  But for whatever reason, he wound up alone, cornered by a group of wild Pokemon, and he was losing.

That was when a stranger Charmander showed up.

Laying down his life to fight for and protect the tribe's leader, the smaller, younger Fire-type fought bravely, and sustained serious injuries.  If he had rushed back to camp, they could have been treated, but instead he helped the Inferno get back as well, slowly leading the way home with the light of his tail.

The two managed to reach camp safely.  The Inferno had a few minor injuries, but the Charmander's were too severe, and he died in a few hours.  Had they been tended to immediately, he could have been saved, but instead he sacrificed himself to save their revered leader.  His real name was never discovered, but he was deemed Torch, because of the way he had used his tail as one.  Torch left a huge impact on the tribe, and would be the factor that would change and revive the tribe.  They began accepting outsiders.  He became a deity, and reshaped their culture.  In addition, they renamed themselves the Torch Alliance, in honor of the brave Charmander that had rescued the Inferno, and in the long run, the entire tribe.

Torch lives on today, in the stories and legends alongside the mighty phoenix Moltres.  He is a very benevolent and caring deity... he's the one who comforts, guides, and inspires the tribe, and is spoken most often in times of trial.  Some would say he's even more important than Moltres at this time.

Personality

Not a whole lot is really known about this Charmander, and that certainly includes his personality.  Most of how he's depicted is based off of his last moments.  There is a lot of variation, but there are a few basics.

Brave - Torch is often seen as very courageous, having no fear in the face of any danger.

Noble - Torch had a very strong sense of right and wrong, and was happy to help others in need.

Kind - Torch had a very caring, loving personality.  He was compassionate and empathetic.

Gentle - Although he could fight, Torch was very sensitive to others' feelings, and could be very soft, especially with children.  He likely wasn't quick to resort to violence.

Loyal - Torch was the type that probably would have become a very loyal member of the tribe, had he lived on to become one.  This loyalty would not easily waver.

Friendly - Torch was very open to interaction with other Pokemon, and probably could have made friends quickly.

Optimistic - Torch is almost always thought to look at life with the cup half full.
