Physical Attributes

While cheetahs generally have poor stamina, Sohnii has slightly higher perseverance when it comes to taking hits and not giving in. This is not due to his physical capabilities of course; Sohnii's main tactic is observing his opponent for weaknesses while preserving his strengths, using only defensive moves, allowing the opponent to attack first, using moves that don't require much energy or physical power.  He also tries to observe his opponent for weaknesses and fighting style.  His perseverance comes from pushing himself as far as he can. He may be out of breath but pride, stubbornness and determination (possibly anger too) keep him going up until the point where he faints. To keep up with this, Sohnii rarely ever runs at high speed, or at all, unless he has to. The signature cheetah trait is something he finds useless and stupid. Besides having such speed, most cheetah hunts fail, and they can only keep it up for a few seconds.  Thus, while running Sohnii is not much faster than the average cat his size.  Due his apprentice training, Sohnii began only using his speed for brief offensive attacks two or three times per fight, because he learned it's useful in moderation.  Sohnii can take a lot of hits, but mostly because he, again, pushes himself beyond his limits. This is not without its consequences and may kill him someday. It's worth noting that Sohnii is not as agile as other cheetahs, perhaps by choice; such smooth and active body movement requires precious energy that he is unwilling to waste.

His mother's subspecies has the lightest fur color, but his father was darker in color. As a result, the two genes equal each other out, giving a tannish yellow cheetah. He is, however, closer to his mother in coloration, but has several of his father's traits as well.  One of these is how the king mutation shows in his appearance... his paternal grandmother was a king cheetah, which is where his neck scruff comes from, as well as how only three lines of spots align with his back.

Sohnii's armor is made of a variety of materials.  The metal pieces are rather old, but made of very thin sheets of zinc.  His cloth isn't tied on the opposite side.  The bands on his legs are made of thin fabric, with his braces made of both leather and metal.

Sohnii tends to have expressions that are rather exaggerated when he's irritated and angry, but all other emotions are very slight.

History

I am a question to the world,
Not an answer to be heard
Or a moment that's held in your arms

Although many cats came into the world in much worse situations, Sohnii's beginning was a humble one.  He was born inside a cage, in his owner's garden.  The garden was lush and beautiful, and compared to the cage, dangerously tempting.  Subira's enclosure was protected from the rain, but unshielded from the wind, and hardly enough for such a large group of felines: her, and seven cubs.

Being wild-born and slender, but very beautiful, after being dubbed unsatisfactory for the pits Subira was sold off as strictly a breeding feline, and immediately bred to a male Cheetah named Jabari.  It wasn't a romantic relationship, and the two agreed.  It wasn't until after her cubs were born that she found out the fate of her litter: most of them were to be killed and skinned for profit when they were old enough.  As such, a lot of pressure and stress was put on the cheetah mother.  She loved her cubs, but she was raising children who would likely just die later.  She was never allowed outside her cage, and when it was cleaned, she was tied up and separated from her children.  And to top it off, she'd had an unexpectedly large litter of cubs.  She found it hard to give them all equal attention, and one of them was bound to not get all the socialization and care he needed.  Sohnii was that cub.

In the beginning, he yearned, cried, begged for his mother's love and attention.  There was nothing he wanted more.  He wanted what his other siblings had, especially the runt, Chipo.  But under the weight of everything shoved onto Subira, little Sohnii was swept away.  Over time, he became less social and a little grumpy, as a result of the lack of interaction from a parent, and the competition and frustration made him resentful towards his mother and siblings.  This would set the stage for the rest of his life.

It seemed life would end bleakly for all of them, but for the cubs, life wasn't all bad.  They were often let out into the garden, sometimes even into the house.  Sohnii hardly ever played or cuddled with his brothers and sisters, but he was often found entertaining himself, exploring, or getting into trouble with the pet margay, whose name is long forgotten in Sohnii's mind.  After a while, he learned to avoid him most of the time.  Although life seemed blissful, the clock was ticking, and every day was one step closer to their demise.  Subira knew this, and she intended to do something about it.

The cubs were two months old, and had been weaned a little earlier than normal.  after the margay injured Sohnii and called him a meatbag, Sohnii returned to his mother for comfort.  That's when he heard her talking.  She said that she was going to leave.  She said she was going to take Chipo with her.  And she said that all the others would be turned into 'pelts'.  He couldn't remember the order or exact words which he heard... but that was what he understood.  Some other cubs might not think much of it, but he had always been a little smart.  Sohnii was hurt and confused; he returned to the margay for answers.  The margay sneered and told him what would happen: they were going to die.  Have their throats cut, and then never move again.  Be hung up on a wall, or worn by humans.  The cub was horrified, not only because he had discovered death but the first time, but because of what he'd been told about his mother.  She was going to escape, and she was only going to take one of her children with her.  Of course the beautiful, sweet little Chipo would be Subira's choice.  She was going to leave the rest of them to die, and it made him sick.  But he wasn't going to let it happen.  Not Sohnii.

Subira made her move.  When a new, inexperienced servant went in to feed her, she attacked and killed him, then able to escape with Chipo, instructing her other children to stay there as she left.  Kamau, Dayo and all the others listened, but not Sohnii.  He knew that his mom wasn't coming back.  He didn't know why mother wouldn't take all of them, but he wasn't going to be turned into a pelt. He was coming whether she liked it or not.  He ignored the warnings of his brothers and ran after mother.

Subira wasn't pleased.  It was hard enough to escape the city without a second cub in tow.  It would have been a lot easier if it was just Chipo, who was still small enough for Subira to carry.  Once they hit the plains though, things got a lot easier.  Having been isolated, they didn't find out about the empires beforehand, but after a few days Subira came across a cat on patrol.  Hearing about the Empires, she decided that Fire Empire was the one that suited her best.  Thus began their new life in the Empires.

And what do you think you'd ever say?
I won't listen anyway…
You don't know me,
And I’ll never be what you want me to be.

For many, the empires are a sanctuary, and life gets infinitely better once you're free.  However, for the little cheetah family, there were a lot of unresolved issues that continued to worsen.  Sohnii was certainly a pawful... he was hard to control and tended to be rather rebellious, embarrassing him mother time and time again.  He didn't interact easily with other cubs.  He was unfriendly and almost seemed to avoid them at times.  And then there was his relationship with his mother and Chipo.  That with his sister was rather erratic, sometimes getting along and sometimes fighting, which he argued often with his mother, still upset with what she had done in Massilia.  It was a rocky situation, and it would only get worse.

It wasn't all bad however.  Sohnii wasn't heartless... he would still stick around his mom sometimes, and he still loved Chipo.  They argued like any brother and sister, and Chipo would tease and prank him sometimes, but if she asked to play, Sohnii would always agree, even if a little grudgingly sometimes.  And both of them would often play with older cub Garen, even Sohnii when he wasn't focused on his own thing.  When not obliging those around him or mouthing off, the cub would play with any insects he could find, chew on rocks, and what cub didn't try to escape every now and then? Yes, life was indeed good, if not less than perfect, but it was again about to change.

Near the end of February.  Sohnii and Chipo were both five months old, and as they grew in size, they grew more restless as well.  They were getting too big to be confined in the camp so much.  Subira decided to take them out into the forest for a little while.  Chipo was excited, Sohnii was tolerant, but everything seemed to be going ok so far.  That is, until Subira saw some prey.  She instructed the two cubs to stay put while she took it down.  Being a mischievous cub, Chipo decided to use it as a distraction, and convinced her brother to sneak away with her.

Once on their own Chipo then suggested a race; if they ran in a straight line, they wouldn't get lost.  It was an offer Sohnii didn't refuse.  However, he wasn't as small or nimble as his sister, and fell behind almost immediately.  Angry that he was being left behind, Sohnii cried out, but Chipo didn't listen.  She kept on running, and soon she was out of sight.  With a huff of annoyance, he sat down on the ground, waiting either for Subira to find him or Chipo to come back.  Whichever came first.  He didn't realize the danger that his sister was in.

Up a hill and behind a tree with twisted roots is where tragedy struck.  Chipo had been discovered by a bear.  The bulky, clumsy animal attacked the easy prey, who cried for help as she tried to maneuver around the roots of the tree to save herself.  The odds, however, were too great and poor young Chipo stood absolutely no chance.  The patrol who heard her screams managed to chase off the bear, but they were too late.  The broken cub was long gone.  She'd gotten stuck in the roots.  Her neck was snapped, and her body had several gashes, evidence of just how doomed she'd been from the start.  It was terrible, but they still had another cub to find.

He hadn't moved from his previous spot, and that was where the patrol had found him.  Hiding his sister's body from view, they scolded him briefly, before taking him back to camp.  He was a little annoyed because it had been Chipo's idea in the first place, and when he asked the patrol wouldn't tell him where she was, but he didn't hesitate to obey.  Before they got home, however, they came across a distraught Subira.  Making sure Sohnii couldn't overhear, they had to break the news to her; it was a thing no mother should have to bear.  Chipo was secretly buried in the woods before they headed back to camp.

Later, the next time Sohnii approached his mother, she was grief-stricken, and placed the blame on her son.  She shouted at him, saying that Chipo was 'gone' and that it was his fault.  Angry and hurt, he shouted back.  It was then that Sohnii's attitude and relationship with his mother began to worsen.  It wasn't fair to blame her son, and she soon realized this and let her anger subside, but the damage was already done.  Mother and son began to avoid one another, and Sohnii himself seemed to become more and more isolated.

As for Chipo... it would be a long time before Sohnii found out the truth.  He thought she had run away from Fire Empire.  He didn't understand why, only that he was getting blamed for something she did, and so he became to hate a sister that wasn't there anymore.

And what do you think you'd understand?
I'm a boy, no, I'm a man..
You can't take me and throw me away.

(Meeting Crispus, being suspended for several months and being sick for the rest of the year, generally drifting away from just about everyone except Garen.  During this time, he becomes very close to the snow lynx, and the two come to see each other as brothers.  Sohnii also finds out about Chipo's death during this time, which hits him pretty hard.  He finds comfort in Garen, though.  I think the Cold Order is issued somewhere along here as well, which certainly leaves an impact on him.)

And how can you learn what's never shown?
Yeah, you stand here on your own.
They don't know me 'cause I'm not here.

(Finally becomes an apprentice, but several problems still arise.  Sohnii doesn't have the best attitude, for starters, and he doesn't get along with his mentor.  He tries training on his own, which doesn't really work all that well.  He starts to be whipped into shape after having his butt kicked by Jahzara, talking with Andromeda and Sufurue, bonding with cubs and generally just spending time with Garen.  Before long, he starts to take a new shape.  He dedicates himself to his training, but shows to have considerable social issues, and therefore still often takes time to himself.  In the very least, his rebellious ways have mostly faded and he's trying to do better at how he speaks with other cats, but his relationship with his mother isn't improving.  He wants to be a member of the assassins someday.)

And you see the things they never see
All you wanted, I could be
Now you know me, and I'm not afraid

(I'll be adding this when he becomes a gladiator, as I'm not sure what he'll be like when that happens.  Sometime after this though, Nini and I will be working out things between him and Subira.  We has plot.)

And I wanna tell you who I am
Can you help me be a man?
They can't break me
As long as I know who I am

Personality

Stubborn, Irritable & Short-tempered

Sohnii is a very determined cat who will remain persistent until the end.  He won't give up, even if it's to his disadvantage.  He doesn't listen to others very well and once he's made up his mind, it can be difficult to change it.  He thinks he knows best when it comes to his own decisions, though he may listen more easily to cats he trusts.  He is also easily annoyed, even by the smallest things, such as twitching, repetition, or excessive questions.  He doesn't like his personal space invaded, and isn't a big fan of family values or romance.  He also has a quick temper.  However, this doesn't effect his judgement and is not easily provoked.  He does push himself a bit hard though, and you can easily tell when he's annoyed or offended.

Sensitive & Resentful

Despite his tough and aloof act, in reality Sohnii has a soft spot that he doesn't reveal very often.  Easily offended, he takes things personally and he can actually very very sympathetic towards others when he tries to be.  However, as this makes him vulnerable, he hardly ever practices this.  He's one of the first affected by what's going on around him.  When upset, he shows it in a different way than everyone else, avoiding interaction and taking it out on others.  Those who know him best can see right through this.  When they point it out to him when he's alone, Sohnii doesn't mind opening up, but will deny it if anyone else finds out.  He's also one to hold a heavy grudge.  Sohnii is capable of hating someone for a very long time, and will do so very strongly.  However, he will never resent anyone unless he has a reason for it.

Solitary & Independent

The first thing you'll notice about Sohnii is his tendency to be by himself.  He's generally not very social towards other cats, and isn't the best when it comes to teamwork.  He would much rather work alone, or at least, with someone he knows and trusts.  In the end though, it's really more than a preference.  He didn't get as much socialization as a cub, and as a result, doesn't have very good social skills and tends to be awkward around others.  He doesn't really know how to correctly respond in many interactions with his fellow cats.  He seems to work better on his own anyway, preferring to do things himself, as he sees fit.  Unfortunately, this isn't always an option...

Brave & Dedicated

Whether he ignores it or doesn't feel it at all, it doesn't matter.  Sohnii is a cat who hardly ever shows fear, except around those who know him best. Not a believer in failure, although there are times when it's necessary to strategically withdraw, it's something that Sohnii hasn't really learned yet, even though he would probably understand the benefit of doing so if he experienced it himself.  However, it's worth noting that Sohnii is not the type who will ignore crucial details and charge blindly into danger.  Almost always, this bravery comes from his will to not show weakness, but more importantly Sohnii is a very dedicated cat.  He never does anything without a reason, and often it stems from his loyalty to his empire, and to his loved ones.  He acts apathetic, but really, he holds a lot of love for his friends and family.  He understands he has a part to play in Fire Empire, and always tries to do his duty.

Logical, Judgemental & Cautious

Sohnii tends to be very logical, thinking every little detail through.  He doesn't believe in taking risks of any kind.  Sohnii is very skeptical, not willing to believe or do things he doesn't completely understand or know for certain.  The slightest doubt will cause him to back away, and overall he's very careful about how he proceeds with even the smallest step.  His analytical nature extends towards others; first impressions are very important to him, and he's quick to judge and mistrust other cats.  As well as others, he's very critical of himself.  Despite his irritability, bravery and determination, he is a very cautious cat and is not known for being impulsive or quick to act.  He's not always patient with little things like being on time and anything annoying, but when it comes to acting, he can understand that it's sometimes necessary.

Serious & Pessimistic

Not one to make jokes or indulge them, it's said that Sohnii doesn't have a sense of humor.  He takes everything seriously and never takes the time to mess around.  He often needs to be reminded to wind down every now and then, and it's good to take ac occasional break... this seems to be something he has a hard time understanding.  Because of his past experiences, he also has a hard time putting a positive spin on things, and generally, always expects the worst to happen.  This often gets on others' nerves, as he will often emphasize that things hardly ever turn out how we want them to, and that death is a natural part of life, no matter how horrible it might seem.  This is a fact he believes in firmly, and won't hold back even for those who are more sensitive.  He doesn't hold onto hope.

Quiet, Witty & Honest

Although not completely silent, it can be said that Sohnii speaks less than the average cat.  Often he will not respond to a question if he doesn't think that he should, and generally won't speak if what's being spoken doesn't relate to him, unless something about it bothers him or captures his interest.  Despite this, when he does speak, Sohnii is known to speak boldly.  He can be quite witty in some situations, and if there's something on his mind he finds worth sharing, he will do so.  You can also always expect him to be honest, even to a fault.  He will state his opinion and say things how they are, not really caring if he offends anyone or hurts their feelings, even if he knows that will be the outcome.

Aloof & Guarded

Most of the time, Sohnii doesn't really seem to care about the feelings of others.  He acts apathetic, and will usually mind his own business unless he's approached directly.  To those who don't know him well enough, he often comes across as not caring about anything or anyone.  However, this is largely an act... he has a belief that sensitive feelings make you weak, and overall they make him feel very vulnerable.  His tough guy act really is just that... while it's true that he does have a rougher side, much of it is like the spines of a porcupine, protecting the softer center within.  When he's upset, he has to try even harder to protect the part of him capable of caring deeply for others, usually done by isolating himself and lashing out at others.  But if you get to know him, you can detect the truth and see what he's hiding.

QUICK NOTES:

:Fire-orb: ~Sohnii didn't exactly have an ideal cubhood.  He never knew his father, his relationships with his siblings were always a little questionable, and he still has a rocky relationship with his mother.  As a result, he's not a very strong believer in the power of family, and will often resent and envy those who have loving brothers, sisters and parents.  So if you catch him glaring at you and your mom, this is why.

:Fire-orb: ~Sohnii is a firm believer in personal space.  He's definitely not a touchy cat, even in his most sensitive moments, and doesn't usually take kindly to others touching him in any way.  The only cat who is a near constant exception is Garan.

:Fire-orb: ~Sohnii really, REALLY doesn't like the color pink.  He wouldn't be caught dead in pink and tends to judge any cat wearing the color upon first sight.

:Fire-orb: ~Although some cubs irritate him, Sohnii exhibits some sort of soft side for youngsters.  He won't actually acknowledge this to anyone, including himself, but he certainly enjoys spending time around them, and they're the one thing that easily settles his prickly heart.

:Fire-orb: ~He doesn't like the word 'innocent' because to him, it's better to call someone naive, ignorant or gullible.  Innocence is a weakness that he has little tolerance or liking for.  He thinks it makes you weak and vulnerable.  As an individual who lost his own innocence at a young age as well as a guarded cat, perhaps it makes some sense for Sohnii to think this way.

:Fire-orb: ~If you're looking for love, romance and courtship, Sohnii is not the cat you want to turn to.  He generally doesn't take well to girls flirting with him, and doesn't really know how to attract females or treat them in a romantic way.  So don't be hurt if he snaps at you or instantly declines, or even mistakes friendliness for flirting.

Roleplay Examples

The snow leopard's words hit the cheetah in a way even he didn't expect.  Perhaps it was because he lost his innocence at a young age, being told that he was not only to die, but to be killed and skinned for his pelt once he was old enough.  For this reason, he couldn't help but scoff at Abella's words.  In his opinion, it wasn't right to hide the truth from the cubs, but since he was older now... he understood why she did it, and she was the blacksmith so it was her word against his, right? Didn't stop him from glaring briefly, but it was gone within seconds, and he turned back to Xephos.  This cub wasn't like the others.  Truth be told, neither was Allora, but something drew him to this one in particular.  He tilted his head at the hybrid's response.  A story, huh? He wasn't much for games, much less stories as a child, but whatever floats your boat, right?

The apprentice was rather adamant about not telling a story at first, but strangly, and annoyingly he might add, something about cubs seemed to... soften him a little.  Ew.  Oh well, he couldn't do anything about it, so paused for a moment.  Maybe... maybe he would give it a shot? Sohnii was sure that if he was here, Garen would encourage him to do so... probably.  "So, uh... you two up for a story?" The nervousness was written all over his face.  A spiky cheetah with social issues, speaking to an audience was not on his list of favorite things.  "I guess I could give it a shot.  Maybe.  Sorta."  He still wasn't sure, and it was all too obvious... he even glanced at Acacia and Aglaia self-consciously.  But he cleared his throat anyway.  "Once... once upon a time... once upon a... hmm..." His mind seemed to have drawn a blank.  How were you supposed to do this again.  "Uh, what kind of story did you two want to hear, huh?" He hoped they didn't expect too much... he was a total noob at this.  They better not laugh or get mad at him either when in inevitably fell flat.  His fur prickled at the thought.
